BEFORE WINTER WITH WALTER AND JIM #2

Ponderosa pine, Pinus ponderosa, several hundred years old. (Just in case some cry out loud again about exaggerating age her: We KNOW that these collected trees are that old because some which have died have been inspected. The age that I am quoting here is very conservative).

The strange branches on top were left for insurance purposes. In about one year this top can go and then the unique trunk line will show very well. In about three years it could go into a good pot and go on exhibit. This tree is sold.

BEFORE WINTER WITH WALTER AND JIM #1

On the first weekend in December the bit event took place at nature#s way Nursery in Harrisburg, Pa. It is part of the WP International Bonsai Academy. Here together with Jim Doyle (JD). Over three days lots of things happened. You get some glimpses of the event.

Colorado blue spruce, Picea pungens, collected in Colorado, probably more than 500 years old. The last image is a virtual, of course. It will take tow to three years before this is show ready. This tree is for sale at Nature's Way Nursery in Harrisburg. But it is very expensive.

Ron Lang

Ron Lang is becoming a well known bonsai potter. He lives in Pennsylvania. Ron showed us (JD and WP) his nice bonsai collection with some unusual pot designs. And then the huge kiln, the largest I have ever seen used for bonsai pots. The three Rocky Mountain Junipers he will keep for a while and design a unique container environment for them. Afterwards I will style them. We will report about the progress.

See more here: Lang pots and stuff

Sean Smith in Pennsylvania

Recently I met Sean Smith who is a famous bonsai artist from Pennsylvania. He sometimes works at nature's Way Nursery in Harrisburg, Pa.
